Category 5 is built on a partnership between Don Ritter and Steve Scott that began as a way to make amplifiers and raise money (and awareness) for charity at the same time.
The focus was first on charities providing relief for natural disaster victims (of the Asian tsunami and hurricanes Katrina and Rita), thus the names of the company and its amplifiers. As it has grown, so has the scope of both the products and the philanthropy, which supports an expanding list of worthy causes.
Blue Star Connection
We donate 10 percent of revenue to blue star connection. The Blue Star Connection mission is to provide access and ownership of musical instruments for children and adults with cancer and other serious life challenges. To date they have reached over 1200 kids and have donated musical gear to 100 Children’s Hospitals and Music Therapy programs, as well as several other community programs. Please help us continue this mission.

"I’ve been using Category 5 amps for the last five years, I’m the studio and on the road. I get asked about them every night. They give me what I’m looking for: a full-range, warm sound with beautiful overtones, clarity and responsiveness. "

"I have been playing the big “tweed” 4x10’s that Category 5 put out a few years ago. They are an homage to one of the greatest amplifier circuits (in my opinion) that has ever been produced; and Category 5’s version of it is my favorite amp."

“It’s a real workhorse; theaters, clubs and pubs. Straight in and working the guitar’s volume knob, or using pedals, this amp sings.”
Hunter St Marie - South Austin Moonlighters35 Watt Bassman
